Volunteer program
Join GARS president Christopher Huffer at the Carter Center as he leads another pruning day in the Presidential rose gardens. Maintenance of the gardens at this time of year is essential, and our focus will be pruning, cutting back the plants, and removing dead wood. There are approximately 180 roses on the property including Climbers, Hybrid Teas, Floribundas, Grandifloras, Polyanthas, and English roses.
This is an educational event open to the public. We will meet outside of the visitor’s center at 9 AM, and the Carter Center gardening staff will bring us into the rose garden. Refreshments will be served.
Bring garden gloves and pruners.
Anyone interested in learning how to correctly prune roses to promote healthy growth is encouraged to attend. Certified Consulting Rosarians will be present to teach as well as discuss fertilizers, watering, disease and insect control, types of roses, and selecting and planting roses.
