Know what is best for your garden
GARS Organic Garden Series. It is the dead of winter and every bloom in the catalog is an alluring siren but how do you know which rose is worth a spot in your garden? Greater Atlanta Rose Society welcomes our very own Christopher Huffer, Consulting Rosarian and curator of the Carter Center Library Rose Garden which is a public no spray garden here in Atlanta. Christopher is a collector of roses including a number of rare roses and currently has nearly 600 roses in his private garden. Christopher will explain some of the best roses to plant here in the Atlanta area and what you want to avoid. When you start with strong roses that are right for your garden, it makes it easier to care for and that can help you keep your garden organic.

Pruning clinic and demonstration
It is time to prune your roses. Pruning is essential to help encourage more blooms, remove dead and/or diseased wood which helps maintain a desirable shape and keep your plants healthy. Consulting Rosarian David Baker from The Greater Atlanta Rose Society will be on site to demonstrate proper pruning techniques on a wide variety of roses. After Baker’s demonstration you will be given the chance to work with roses on site. This event is free and held at The Carter Center rose garden. There will be some tools on site you can use, but if you have your own clippers and gloves, please bring them.
